coming back to senses

fall cycle workshop

SeP 30 - OCT 3 (+9 weeks online follow-up)
grimsby Area, ONTario

Immerse yourself in the fall - the season of harvest, creating reserves, and cleaning up. Uncover the broad influence of breathing on the brain and body. Discover how our brains manage our energy budgets. Learn about the tools to preserve, store and fully experience the taste of fall.
*The workshop includes a 9-week long online follow-up composed of physical practice assignments and an individualized game plan for improving diets and processing food.

WORKSHOP themes

In line with our workshop structure, we will explore our human design through means of physical practice and food procurement, with a special focus on:

beyond physical practice:

Integration of breathing, emotional and cognitive states, energy management, and interoception into one conceptual framework:
I. We will explore how breathing rhythm and pattern modulate neural processes and thus how controlled respiration forms an easily accessible tool for emotional, cognitive, and physiological regulation.
II. We will unravel our metabolic strategy on the level of unique rules/principles for the human species and the needs of our individually specific lifestyles to efficiently manage our energy budget in the short and long term.

beyond Food procurement:

Fall is the time of true harvest abundance and the opportunity to put away very caloric dense foods to last through the winter. In this cycle, we will be focusing on foraging nuts, roots, fruit, and mushrooms – and learning how to process, preserve, store and cook with these seasonal ingredients.

Cooking As a facilitator of culture and connection:

Our guided tours through Pearl Morissette Gardens will be centered around exploring the relationship between soil quality and nutrients, natural cycles, and farming sustainability. Sanat Kapila, one of the team members at the restaurant, will take us through the process of cooking with seasonal ingredients and creating balanced dishes.
